London trio Not Cool have called it a day. Yesterday on the bands facebook page they announced the following split
Hi
Due to various circumstances including personal development, self loathing and various godly epiphanies we have decided to ‘call it a day,’ quit, split etc. We would like to thank everyone who put our songs out, bought a record, paid to see us play, shrugged their shoulders, said kind words or danced to our music.
We’ve been banging our heads against a wall for tooooooo long.
On Friday 18th of November we’ll be playing our final show. Details to follow.
Many Thanks
Matthew J Gilbert, Andrew Moran and William J. Riley’
Not Cool were our first London band who were willing to travel to sunny Wolverhampton and play one of the best set's we have ever seen. Rugged Raw is an outstanding seven track e.p that hit more of a chord with us then anything we heard coming out of London at that time, It was just more honest and humble. You all need that record in your life. Having influences from a far as MF Doom to Pavement Not Cool are cool.
On Wednesday 12th October we are working with This is Tomorrow for the show Mazes, Milk Maid and Calories at the Hare and Hounds Birmingham .
There is a limited £5 list for the show. All you have to do is put your name down on the Facebook event page and you can get in for £5 to see three RAD bands!
Swim Deep hail from Birmingham and make chilled out good vibes that bring the beach and sunshine to the Midlands. Think Wavves meets Summer Camp and your almost there. We caught up with them for a Q and A before catching them at the Male Bonding show.
Me and wolfgang spent our time in our frees at college smoking weed talking about how it would be dope to be in a band, in a girl etc,
So we talked about it and then we sang about it.
For a band based in the West Midlands where did the fascination for the beach and waves come from?
We want to escape this Midlands/English bullshit, and who doesn't? no one wants to be in the fucking rain, none of us can surf, only one of us has a tan, and thats heridetry, we just dream of that kinda shit man, not waiting at a bus stop without encountering some dying old bloke on search for a nicotine rush. We wanna get away, far away.
Musically how does the writing process work? I understand you're very DIY with recordings using i-phones etc?
only one of us can afford an iphone man, but yeah, we write our music all together, usually someone, anyone, maybe austin, writes some gnarly riff then we all roll to that, if we had money we'd be fucking rich, but until then...
Favourite song in your set to play live and why?
We always love playing white witches, because its the end of the set and were all high of whatever, it goes down well, and we all go down well.
Future releases for Swim Deep?
We're recording all this bitter winter, with Dom Ganderton, a good mate of ours, we'l release that shit in jan/feb... expect some hazy crazy, were really looking forward to releasing the new vibezzzz.
Bands to look out for?
there's a lot of dope music at the moment thats new to some much anticipated ears.. yuck, gross magic, te3th, blood orange, tribes and our bros peace and is tropical. OH and The Wanted fucking rule.
Skate or play music?
Skating is just one big fucking laugh, we dont take ourselves seriously at all there. wheras music, playing music, is euphoric. if your going to skate to any oozik though, its always jurassic 5.
Top 5 records that changed your life ( collectively or individually)
John J Presley plays raw garage blues. Part of the Cold rice collective Vinny and the Curse, this is John on his own, playing what sounds like The Oblivians fronted by Nick Cave, with some Tom Watts thrown in there. We asked John a few questions; if you like a 'getting to know you' before he plays for us at the Male Bonding show. When did the solo project start? How,when and why?
I started playing on my own about 6 years ago when i was living in Liverpool, there was no where to rehearse as a band, so i just started writing on my own... I Picked up a guitar at a party and just so happened to play in front of a promoter and most of Liverpool's music scene..... I got a few good gigs
What's your main influence when it comes to writing?
Love and loss...
Want it, got it, got it, want it.
Will it be a full band or just yourself on the 27th, which one do prefer on your own or with a full band?
I'll be playing with my band
I do think i prefer playing with a band, more energy, more eye contact..
Favourite song in your set to play live and why?
Always the latest song....
More room for error, so quite tense to play
Future releases for you?
I've just recorded an album, so some time next year.
Bands to look out for?
Duke Garwood, the most amazing guitar player/Musician The Brute Chorus, London based, played with them a few times, lovely guys...

We keep on finding so many rad bands right now and Slowcoaches are one of them we like. Coming from Leeds and playing messy lo-fi sounds.
Forgive us but it's sounds like early Pavement but more rough in the best way possible. According to their blur, there is melody there, but you’ll have to go digging through a load of feedback, overdrive and wah’s before you find it. Download as much as you from the soundcloud page below.
They hail from New York and make the most interesting strummed out sounds. It's chilled out lo-fi goodness. They are also really big fans of Jurassic park. The debut LP 'Thrashin' will be out 26th September on Marshall Teller. Take a listen to the the single 'Secret VHS Collection' below and download 'Shitty baby'.
With only a few day's now to go before Male Bonding's second full length is out on Monday.Sub Pop are putting out a few more videos of the band to countdown the release.
Filmed by Conan Roberts at the Buffalo Bar's 10th birthday show the first up is 'Tame the Sun'.
Been having mass emails in regards to who is going on tour with Male Bonding this September. First up it was Gross Magic but they're now unable to do the dates. Sad news, but more rad news is The History of Apple Pie are now going on tour with the Dalston dudes.
And all this time i have been trying to sort out a show with the Pie for Birmingham.
We can not wait for this show: Not only do we have The History of Apple Pie but John J Presley and Swim Deep playing. The tickets are going fast and looking as tho it will sell out before the date itself. Get them from the link here....
Recalling the pop sensibility of ELO, the grunge riffs of early Nirvana, the carefree adolescence of Loser-era Beck and the lo-fi production of Ariel Pink.
We are so happy to be helping out with our good friends This Is Tomorrow with putting on Mazes,Milk Maid and Calories on 12th October. Such a rad line up and not to be missed at all believe us.
Talking of more RAD shows coming to Birmingham. This is Tomorrow and Super-fuzz big-muff are putting on Let's Wrestle 23rd July more info can be on the Facebook event HERE.
Rory Attwell is the man behind all your favourite bands right now. He produces some RAD records over at Bratwell recordings from Weird Dreams,Not Cool,Fair Ohs and many more. He's most famously known for being one third of Test Icicles and according to BBC Radio 1 Attwell was named one of five people set to "shape the sound of 2010". Now this year Rory has he's own project to twiddle the sound knobs to and that's Warm Brains.
Mixing the shoegaze parts of Blur's Modern life is Rubbish and early Mudhoney sounds.

Dum Dum Girls are bringing out another Lp due on 27th September entitled 'Only In Dreams' on Sub Pop records.
They recently brought out the brilliant E.P 'Gets me high' at the start of year and was a small taste of things to come bringing more Shagri-Las harmonies and haunting vocal's from the stunning Dee Dee.
We really can not wait for this record to drop and even more rad news is the UK tour. It has Wrexham Central station on the tour. That show on the 16th will truly be a memorable one.
From Sub Pop
"Only in Dreams retains Dum Dum Girls’ signature blend of the girl-gang eyeliner punk of the Shangri-Las, the trashy propulsion of the Cramps, and the moody atmospherics of Mazzy Star, but for the first time, all four Dum Dum Girls play and sing on the album. Now the harmonies have more depth, Jules plays her own distinctive guitar leads, and the Bambi (bass)/Sandy (drums) rhythm section powers the music like a vintage V-8 engine. Best of all, tons of time on the road—including two massively successful headlining tours—have molded Dum Dum Girls into a very formidable rock & roll band, giving the music an undeniable force.
Only in Dreams represents a musical evolution for Dum Dum Girls and a personal one for Dee Dee, and that’s no coincidence. “I’m for real,” she says. “We all are. I’m really passionate about this, it’s all I know. And maybe we’ve just grown up a bit—or grown out a bit. There’s some weight to what we do, and a pure intent, and I think that comes across on this album.”
